iPhone's next GPU

Graphics Processing Unit or GPU, any modern computer equipment is an important part of the device, which receives the major 3D graphics processor. At CES 2010 last week, the Imagination Technologies, the chip maker spilled beans on the GPU for the next generation iPhone.

Vodafone will sale iPhone in UK in Jan 2010

Vodaphone is the latest of the UK’s major phone networks to offer the iPhone to customers.

The cheapest tariff available is £30 a month for 24 months, plus additional handset charges ranging from £59 (iPhone 3G 8GB) to £239 (3GS 32GB).

Both business and consumer contracts are subject to a 1GB monthly data limit on mobile internet use. Orange has a decent limit of 750MB per month.

AT&T has apparently found a workable solution to the reported data congestion in New York City. They've quietly stopped selling the iPhone from their web site to customers in the New York metropolitan area.

I guess that's one way to solve the problem.

Apple developing radio app for iphone

Citing anonymous sources, the Apple news site says the functionality of the application will be similar to what Apple built into the iPod Nano. That includes the ability to pause live FM transmissions and fast-forward when you resume playing.

According to 9 to 5 Mac, the delay in getting the app to market is Apple’s decision to integrate it with the iTunes Store, which is built into the devices. With this integration, people will be able to tap on a song they hear on the radio and buy it through iTunes.

Of course, Apple wouldn’t be the first company to offer some type of FM functionality on the iPhone. Applications like Wunder Radio have been around for over a year and enable people to stream Internet radio to their iPhone and iPod Touch.

The big advantage Apple would have is linking its application to the iTunes Store, which creates the potential for more revenue.

iPhone 3.1 may cause jailbreak problem

“If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).”

The Dev Team usually posts a fresh hack within days if not hours of every new release so there is no need to fret. Still, don’t rush to download the new firmware right away.

Update:We apologize for the confusion this may have caused. To clarify, the Dev team has not said that you would lose your jailbreak only your Ultrasn0w unlock if you update the firmware by normal means through iTunes.

Dexter iPhone game out now

Marc Ecko Entertainment has released an iPhone game adaptation of TV show Dexter for £3.49.

It's based on the first series of the murderous drama, which follows police blood splatter analyst Dexter as he investigates by day and kills by night. Presented in impressive 3D, you control the eponymous character as he collects evidence at crime scenes before stalking his guilty prey when the sun goes down.

Michael C. Hall, star of the telly series, lends his Dexter vocals to the game, while show script writer Tim Schlattmann conjures an original storyline.

Sounds like quite a lot of effort has been put in, if the synopsis on the App Store gamepage is anything to go by.

New iPhone application can alert for swine flu infection

Apple has introduced a new iPhone application, which enables users to track and report outbreaks of infectious diseases, such as H1N1 (swine flu), on the ground in real time.

The application called ”Outbreaks Near Me” has been created by researchers at Children’’s Hospital Boston in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab.

It uses the HealthMap technology, an online resource that collects, filters, maps and disseminates information about emerging infectious diseases, and provides a new, contextualised view of a user’’s specific location.

Via HealthMap, the new application pinpoints outbreaks that have been reported in the vicinity of the user, and offers the opportunity to search for additional outbreak information by location or disease.

”Outbreaks Near Me” has another additional functionality-the ability to set alerts that will notify a user on their device or by e-mail when new outbreaks are reported in their proximity, or if a user enters a new area of activity.

“We hope individuals will find the new app to be a useful source of outbreak information - locally, nationally, and globally,” said HealthMap co-founder Dr. John Brownstein.

He added: “As people are equipped with more knowledge and awareness of infectious disease, the hope is that they will become more involved and proactive about public health.”

The new application also features an option for users to submit an outbreak report.

This feature would enable individuals in cities and countries around the world to interact with the HealthMap team and participate in the public health surveillance process.

In fact, users can also click photos - of situations and scenarios of, and/or leading to, disease - with their iPhone and submit them to the HealthMap system for review and eventual posting as an alert on the worldwide map.

“This is grassroots, participatory epidemiology. In releasing this app we aim to empower citizens in the cause of public health, not only by providing ready access to real-time information, but also by encouraging them to contribute their own knowledge, expertise, and observations. In enabling participation in surveillance, we also expect to increase global coverage and identify outbreaks earlier,” said HealthMap co-founder Clark Freifeld. (ANI)

Apple claims “exploding” iPhones due to screen pressure.

Last week, reports surfaced that Apple was investigating reports of "exploding" iPhones, encouraged by the publicity the case of a French teenager who allegedly received eye injuries when the screen of his iPhone crushed.

Rockstar Games announced Monday that its portable version of Grand Theft Auto would port: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS to the iPhone. The game is expected to arrive this autumn. "China Town Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch. We are very pleased at this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City to bring this level of detail and compelling gameplay on the new Apple gaming platforms" Rockstar president Sam Houser said.
